About the organism
Physarum polycephalum is a single cell with no brain and no neurons, yet it
finds the shortest path through a maze and — given oat flakes laid out as Japanese
cities — grows a network close to the Tokyo rail map.
Each agent here follows Jeff Jones’ 2010 model: sample the chemical trail at three
points ahead, turn toward the strongest, step forward, and deposit a little trail of
your own. That single rule, run a million times a frame, is the whole colony. Nothing
below is drawn — every vein you see is agents agreeing with each other.
